Act Advice For A Freshman?

I am a high school freshman that is taking the ACT tomorrow, I have taken a practice exam and gotten the scores as followed: English: 24, Math: 28, Reading: 29, Science: 25. By my junior year I am hoping to get 31+ on all subjects. Does anyone have any advice so that I can increase these scores because I would like to attend a competitive university (Georgetown, Northwestern) Also, are these scores good for a freshman?? Thanks!

I Want To Become An Engineer. Am I Smart Enough?

I am twenty-five years old and I was thinking about going to a University to get a degree in engineering. I’m really interested in petroleum engineering or mechanical. Anyways, in high school I really slacked off and I graduated with a GPA of 2.1. Now I am undergoing my 2nd year of online community college working towards my AA. I haven’t taken any physics or chemistry classes yet but I scored a hundred percent in my statistics and algebra classes. My current GPA in college is a 3.9 and I am also working more than full time.
My question is… When will I know if I’m ready or smart enough to pursue engineering? What do I need to do and what do I need to learn before I apply for the course? Will I even get accepted into the course? What test, like the SAT for example, should I study for and take beforehand. I know I have a lot of questions I’m just looking for good advice. I would appreciate any answer, thank you so much for giving me your time and knowledge.

Am I Stanford Material?

Well I want to go to two universities. USC&Stanford. I am realllly confident that I will get into USC. My dad knows everyone at the admissions office also all of my cousins go to USC and they are all in sports. All my aunts went to USC also. I am graduating this year at the age 15. I skipped a lot of grades… I’m graduating through a charter school so its nothing too flashy like a private school or anything. Does this matter? I heard that colleges frown upon charter schools? Well here are the facts:
GPA: 3.8 (unweighted)
Classes: All advanced or college prep.
Sports: two seasons of soccer, as well as two seasons of softball. One season of cheer leading.
Recommendation letters: I have eight of them.
SAT score: 2200
ACT score: 30
Clubs: Youth leadership forum. Sadly my school only has one club…
Okay so by this point you guys are probably wondering why I mentioned USC when this is about Stanford? I been working really hard in school but my dad keeps on bringing me down. He tells me that I am NOT stanford material. He keeps on telling me that no matter how hard I try my chances are pretty much nonexistent. My dad really wants me to go to USC. USC is GREAT, and I will apply to them next year since I missed the application deadline, and plus I haven’t graduated yet. I want to go USC next year. And once I turn 18 I want to enroll in Stanford. So I have some time to improve my college resume/application. My dad just doesn’t want me to go all the way to San Fransisco. He says that it is too far from home. So I am a little bit shaken up by his negative comments. I understand that if you guys submit your opinions I wont automatically become a Cardinal. But I just have to know what do you think? Am I even close to being so called “stanford material”. Your opinion does matter since if my application looks somewhat sloppy then I still have time to fix it. Do more sports, volunteering…ETC. P.S. about community service. I have 200 hours of community service completed. BUT! Since I missed my application deadline for USC, I have a whole year off. And I’ll probably go into a community college to just learn the basics and not waste important time. Although on the side lines – whether I attend a community college or not, I want to start my own website. Not sure what to call it yet. But anyways for community service I want to team up with schools all over the valley and get high school students to volunteer. On my website there can be a list of different volunteering opportunities in different valleys. Such as volunteering at a dog shelter, a library, ETC. But I also want to get the kids out of there typical enviorment. And organizes fundraisers to take them to a beach for beach clean up. It’ll be a bit fun and they can get CC hours. What do you think? I think that this will show leadership? I can work with school and organize fundraisers, or dates to volunteer at library’s, beach clean up ETC… Good idea or terrible? Well I am really sorry for make this super duper long and sorry for all the misspells in here. I lost my glasses. :( . Thank you!

Why Is Collage In America So Exprensive Vs Collage In Other Countries?

I would like to go back to Collage, but it is very difficult to get into a State Collage and pay the high cost of tuition, books, and metrical. I know people have said apply for Grants and Scholarships, but i did that and after 50 apps no luck. I don’t want to go the loan route ,because i don’t want debt. In regards to difficulty getting into the collage. I am 40 years old and they want my SAT test , but I never did that test, So what can I do?
In France Collage is basically free. In Mexico collage is free and it is a poor county. Why is the cost so high here? How do they expect people to go to collage if the cost is high ? I don’t want to go to a JC just a 4 year university. What can i do? I don’t have much money(just enough to pay my bills then i am broke), I am 40 years old, just a High School Diploma, Never did the SAT ( don’t want to too much money), and I work from 9am-10pm most days only Mondays off

Summarizing An Article? Easy 10 Points?

Chip lets smartphones see through walls, clothes
please summarize the article BELOW in 125 words and in your own word you may use some of the quote from the articles. thanks
Researchers at a Texas university have designed a chip that could give smartphones the long-envied ability of comic book her Superman to see through walls, clothes or other objects.
A team at University of Texas at Dallas tuned a small, inexpensive microchip to discern a “terahertz” band of the electromagnetic spectrum.
The design works with chips made using Complementary Metal-Oxide Semiconductor technology behind processors commonly found in personal computers, smartphones, televisions and videogame consoles.
“CMOS is affordable and can be used to make lots of chips,” electrical engineering professor Kenneth O said in a statement Friday.
“The combination of CMOS and terahertz means you could put this chip and a transmitter on the back of a cell phone, turning it into a device carried in your pocket that can see through objects.”
To assuage privacy worries, the professor and his team at the Texas Analogue Center of Excellence are limiting their study to what the chips can make visible at distances of four inches (10 centimeters) or less, according to the university.
The terahertz band has wavelengths that fall between microwaves used for mobile phone signals and infrared that is employed for night vision goggles.
The chip designed by O’s team detects terahertz waves and shows the resulting imagery, perhaps on a smartphone screen.
O’s team highlighted potential medical uses such as enabling doctors to peer easily into patients’ bodies and practical applications along the lines of finding studs in walls.
“We’ve created approaches that open a previously untapped portion of the electromagnetic spectrum for consumer use,” O said.
“There are all kinds of things you could be able to do that we just haven’t yet thought about.”

Huge Fight With Roommate Over Cat?

I’m a sophomore at University and I live with my best friend off campus.
I adopted a cat about two months ago without thinking it all through. I realize now that it was a stupid massive responsibility that I shouldn’t have taken on. I need to find a new home for the little guy and though I feel just absolutely awful about it I think it would be the best for the two of us. I want him in a permanent home and I have no idea what my plans are for after school.I talked to my mother on the phone about this and we came to the conclusion that I should try to find a better home. I realize that I should have thought this through but the fact is I didn’t and I’m trying to make up for it now. So my roommate comes home this morning and tells me that I can’t get rid of him…I try telling her calmly that I don’t WANT to but it would be the smartest decision. We wind up getting into a huge screaming argument over the cat. She tells me I’m childish for taking it on (which I full heartily agreed with) and she just keeps saying I can’t get rid of him and that he’s my responsibility now.
Does she not understand that I realize my mistake and just want to find a better home? I can hear her now crying and complaining to someone on the phone next door and I’m just so angry.
I don’t know what to do-am I really that bad of a person???

Is My Novel Solid? Would You Read It?

“RACHAEL” tells the story of Carson Riley, a 18-year-old Harvard student who falls head over heels for Rachael Malone, a troubled 19-year-old. The novel is set in a small town on the sidelines of New York City. Carson spots Rachael on his walk to the car after a haircut and drives her to doctor’s after she exhibits every symptom of Hypoglycemia (and a shitty March, outdoor hangover.) Afterwards, Rachael, not wanting to go home after a messy breakup, decides to stay with Carson…at his “castle” of a place. And it’s not what she imagines there. Turns out the stoner and the ivy-league big shot aren’t so different after all.
MAIN CHARACTERS:
Carson Riley – Main character. POV. Age 18 up to the end. Takes Rachael Malone into his home and develops a romance with her. Carson is apart of the Rileys, an upper class family including Sophie, Dunn, Will, Ryan, and Blake (who is not physically seen by any character). Father, Dunn Riley is well-know alcoholic throughout the story. Carson studies Business Management at Harvard University and Hunter Colloquial College between the Prologue and the Epilogue. His best friend is Delilah Munro. He is the youngest main character of the novel. He is anxious, hardworking and protective, but slightly short-tempered.
Rachael Stewart – 19. Found on New York street by Carson Riley whilst walking wanderously after a breakup. Rachael is Carson’s “house guest”, girlfriend and fiancée from beginning to end. She is compassionate and polite and scolds Carson for his rudeness in a Starbucks and pep talks Ryan Riley into winning his wife back (that of which is unsuccessful). Rachael has a history with drugs and alcohol, revealed in Chapter Four, and was ‘kicked out’ of her mother’s as a result. She later relapses in Chapter 11, with Carson, Delilah and Knight taking part in the drug use. She sobers up again the following day and stays sober for the rest of her life.
Delilah “Baby” Munro – 19. the best friend of Carson Riley. Delilah is said to have brown, zealous eyes—as described by Carson, and many signature smirks. Delilah is very bubbly but is manic-depressive (as revealed in Chapter 10) and later bulimic (revealed in Chapter 17). she carries an on-again-off-again romance with Knight Dylan and a friends-with-benefits one with Ryan Riley. She studies music history in Harvard and is applauded for her pieces regularly. Munro got the nickname “Baby” in high school due to her finding herself in many “serious” relationships, involving sex and men calling her baby—and vice versa—as a receiving tactic (as this happens in her first scene). Carson calls her Baby because (he says) he believes she is precious.
Knight Dylan – 20. The boyfriend of Delilah Munro and “acquaintance” of Carson. Stereotypical joke minus the un-intelligence.
SUPPORTING:
Sophie and Dunn Riley – parents of Carson. In a well-know abusive marriage. The two have 5 children (Blake, Ryan, Carson, Will, and Adele…who is product of rape). they divorce by the final chapter.
Ryan Riley – 22 year old brother of Carson. Photographer. Married to Antoinette Fletching (4 years his senior) until the last chapter. He cheated on her in high school with Delilah Munro and it is assumed she never finds out.
====================
Genre: Coming-of-age, romance, comfort
Length: approx 54,000 words
Cliche content: love at first sight, BFFs, self-mutilation, bulimia, drinking/smoking, fighting the gf’s ex, tattoos, a music festival, domestic violence and summerlove.
Stereotypes: Jocks; the bimbo, child-like wife; pregnant cheerleader; rude American, snobby rich folks at a diner party

A Very Difficult College Decision…?

I am currently deciding what college to go to from the following: Middlebury, Northwestern U., University of MN – Twin Cities, and Notre Dame. The trouble is, the four private schools cost upwards of $20,000 more than Minnesota, the cheapest private one is Notre Dame, which is also my first choice. Is it a good idea to go into huge amounts of debt to attend a more “prestigious” university for undergrad, when my intended career is to be a writer?? I plan on double majoring in english and arabic. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
