Why Can’t We Eliminate Marin Luther King, Jr. Day And Call It Civil Rights Day?

Martin Luther King Day, a day when this country will come to a screeching halt so we can have parades and memorials to honor this man that most of the world views as a saint for his role in the civil rights movement. No other public holiday in the U.S. honors a single individual. All of our great war heroes share Memorial Day. All of our great presidents share President’s Day. Yet King, a man who was a phony, cheater, traitor and sexual degenerate gets a day of his own.
1. While working on his dissertation for his doctoral degree at Boston University, King heavily plagiarized from another author who had done research on a similar subject. The academic committee later found that over half of King’s work was plagiarized, but would not revoke his doctrine. King was dead by this time, and the committee ruled that revoking the title would serve no purpose. It was also discovered that King’s famous “I Have A Dream” speech was not his own. He stole it from a sermon by Archibald Carey, a popular black preacher in the 1950s.
2. King was under FBI surveillance for several years due to his ties with communist organizations throughout the country. King accepted money from the organizations to fund his movements. In return, King had to appoint communist leaders to run certain districts of his SCLC (Southern Christian Leadership Conference), who then could project their communist ideas to larger audiences. A federal judge in the 1960s ruled that the FBI files on King links to communism to remain top-secret until 2027. Senator Jesse Helms appealed to the Supreme Court in 1983 to release the files, so the correct bill in the Senate to create the Martin Luther King Federal Holiday could be abolished. He was denied.
3. One of King’s closest friends, Rev. Ralph Abernathy, wrote a book in 1989 in which he talked about King’s obsession with white prostitutes. King would often use church donations to have drunken sex parties, where he would hire two to three white prostitutes, occasionally beating them brutally. This has also been reported by the FBI agents who monitored King. King was married with four children.

Im a sophomore in high school with a weighted GPA of 4.14 and unweighted of 2.86. Last year i basically gave up on school and didnt care if i got a C or D. This year I am trying my best and getting all Bs and 3 As, I know still not the best but im getting there! Im in Psych club, math honor society, steering committee, and mock trial :D ! So I guess essentially im asking 2 questions. Is a weighted GPA of 4.14 bad? Short Story Idea Help?

There’s this contest in school for which we have to write a short story. The problem is is that it has to be a realistic fiction story, and I’ve only ever written horror/fantasy stories before. I find fiction stories extremely hard for me to write, because I find them excruciatingly boring… However, my English teacher said that she thinks that being one of the many winners of this contest, when she was younger, was a major factor in her getting accepted into Brown University. Even though I’m only thirteen, I’ve always wanted to go to Brown for an English degree, so if this is the type of stuff they look at, I really want to do well.
Anyways, I’ve already got the extremely general plot line down. It’s about a man who leaves everything behind to make his fortune, but finds a friend instead. (I’m trying to bring the crappy economy into play here.) Can somebody build off this, maybe give me a few ideas? As in, how does he meet his friend, or expect to make his fortune. I’m probably going to use the SCAMPER tool to build off of these, or change them around. I just need help brainstorming. Thanks so much!

Could This Be A “likely Letter” From Northwestern?

I’ve heard about “likely letters” being sent to strong candidates, which are apparently unofficial acceptances from schools. I applied to Northwestern about 2 months ago, and just received an email about applying to their elite academic Integrated Science Program. It’s my understanding that such invitations are often indicators of a future acceptance…can anyone confirm this?
On a side note, during “Round One” of the college app process, in the fall during the Early Admission round, I applied to the University of Michigan and later received an email about applying for a certain scholarship, and was ultimately accepted to the University. Could be a coincidence, though.
Thanks for any input!

What Would The Total Cost Of College Be In These Situations?

Situation one: If I were to go to a college/university in Florida, specifically near Miami, To be a pathologist or something similar, and Had no scholarships?
Situation two: If I went to Scad University in Atlanta, Georgia to be a photographer or professional artist/writer and had no scholarships?
Also, how can I get certain scholarships? (Name of scholarship-how much it pays- how to get it)

What Style Of Painting In Joos Van Cleve’s Saint Jerome In His Study?

There were many versions, the version I’m asking about is from 1528. There is a container of some red liquid on a shelf behind St. Jerome and it’s on display in the Princeton University museum in New Jersey. I’m pretty sure it’s a Mannerist style painting, but I’m not too sure, because High Renaissance had just ended. Which is it? And what are some examples showing what it is? Thanks!
